How does one qualify for a Kevin L. Bowser Scholarship?

The selection criteria are as follows:
  • Student must be a graduating senior at Bartram High School.
  • Student must be involved in at least one school-organized extracurricular activity.
  • Student must be accepted into a college, university or institution of higher learning and must provide a letter of acceptance.
  • Student must have a GPA of 75% or above.
  • Student must provide a two-page essay on why they want to further their education and why the Kevin L. Bowser Scholarship Fund should make an award to them.
  • Financial need may be taken into consideration.

Who is the Philadelphia Foundation?
The Philadelphia Foundation is a pool of several hundred permanent, charitable trust funds that have been created since 1918 for one purpose: to improve the quality of life in Southeastern Pennsylvania. For more than three generations, people of modest and magnificent means have been turning to The Philadelphia Foundation as their philanthropic partner for investing their charitable dollars. They have entrusted The Philadelphia Foundation to administer these funds responsibly, invest them wisely, and use the revenue which is generated to provide grants and scholarships in this remarkable region we call home. Today, these funds comprise an asset base in excess of $200 million and growing rapidly. They enabled The Philadelphia Foundation to award $24.2 million in grants last year to 800 nonprofit organizations in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia Counties .
 
When can I contribute to the Kevin L. Bowser Scholarship?
You can contribute to the Kevin Bowser Scholarship at any time. Your tax-deductible contribution will be acknowledged via letter from The Philadelphia Foundation after receipt of your contribution at the above address.
 
What happens to my contributions once it is sent to The Philadelphia Foundation?
The purpose of the Fund is to provide funds for scholarships to graduating seniors at Bartram High School who have been accepted into a college or university or institution of higher learning.

The Fund is an endowed fund which only spends a percentage of the contributions per year. For example, 5% of the average quarterly value of the Fund as calculated over several quarters is used for the scholarship awards, which allows for the Fund to grow over several lifetimes. As the Fund increases, so does the amount of scholarships awarded. The Foundation's administrative fee is 1%.
